learning English at the university

Always know another language is an advantage in different areas such as work area, learning area or simply for establish a relation with a foreign people. This skill could open a varied possibilities and opportunities in your life, but is not easy to learn English, you must to dedicate a lot of time because you have to develop all the skills like listening, speaking, writing and reading, it is a process and it could take at least a couple of years depending of the intensity of time that you dedicate to it. In my case it was a very long process and this process still being during, in the next paragraphs a try to tell you about my experience learning English specifically during the university.
At the beginning I started learning English at the school (it was my base). My school had an important hours dedicated to learn this idiom but it was more focused in writing and reading. After the school I started my university life. In the first two years I didn’t dedicate time to English and I forgot the great majority of the things that I was learn at the school. At the university you have to read a lot of papers and books (wrote in English), it was one of the reason why I took the decision to resume “the path of English” and I took some English courses in the “Norteamericano” institute, it was a very good experience, because I could recover some things learned at the school and improve others aspects like speaking and listening, but the problem with this institute is the expensive fare.
One year after this experience I decided to gain more knowledge and I subscribed a university subject called Ingles 3 and next of that English 4, those two subjects was a very important tool to develop all the skills mentioned, it allow me increase my performance in all the activities related with English. Once time a week is not too much, but in spite of this it was enough to maintain and improve considerably my abilities in English.
In conclusion learn English is a very important tool but is not easy to learn, you must to dedicate time of your life, and you never have to stop of learn English because it is always things to learn and practice. If you stop of listening, writing, listening and speaking possibly you could decrease and lost all of your knowledge gained. In my opinion this effort and sacrifice for learning English really worth, and it could open an important number of doors in your life.

problem without solution?

Wow, this conflict possibly is one of the most antiques and unsolved problems in Chile, along the time this situation become in a very predictable problem, because it is always the same, the Mapuches fighting for their rights and territory, and the companies or private owners fight for their private interests. In my opinion this conflict still being unsolved because it is very difficult to find a solution in wich both parts were agree. Sometimes I’ve been agree with the native rights (Mapuches), and sometimes I`ve been agree with the private owners, this dichotomy is due to the different arguments use by each sector. For example sometimes the Mapuches (in my opinion) are to demanding, I respect their rights but in Chile exists too many people with similar problems where the private enterprise ignore the mid or small owners rights, I think the mapuches may be could simplify their demands and be less narrow minded and share their territory with other people and use their lands in sustainable way. In the other hand sometimes the private owners or businessman (in a great majority foreigners) don’t have respect with our culture and origins, they only think in their interests and earn money without respect with the environment, native people, etc.
Nowadays I don’t see a clear solution and in my opinion there is not a good future in this subject (at least in the mid term). The worst think in relation with this matter is the consequences of this conflict, consequences affecting different aspects such as our international image like a country, forest burned, and dead people among others.
In the future I hope more active participation from the Chilean state I mean they must to handle this situation and find a solution a good and just solution to both sides.

Reducing Emissions

This new is very old (2008), but nowadays it’s very important for the Chilean forestry sector, because in the future it could have a significant consequences in our country in different aspects. By introducing REDD wich means Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in developing countries, in a very simple way to explain it , the purpose of this programme is to diminish the greenhouse gas effect particularly carbon dioxide, A way to achieve this goal is through the ability of forests to store carbon dioxide, for this reason the program is trying to encourage developing countries in the sustainable management of their Forests .How can they do this? Basically through the mechanism of compensation where the developed countries pay to developing countries to maintain their forests.
In Chile it could be a very important initiative in the central zone, like Santiago, where there are the Mediterranean Ecosystems, because in the latest decades this kind of ecosystem has been degraded very quickly. These programs could be a source of job to us (Forest Engineering), but it implies to increase our knowledge about REDD, for example the conditions,payments,suitable areas to apply the program, etc.

Our Future

Nowadays environmental subjects are forming part of different and important topics such as: political, sociable and educational matters. For example, in comparison with ten years ago now in Chile there are a lot of laws related with environment care; these laws are very important if we want to be in the future a developed country and more important if we want to be a healthy and sustainable country. For instance the 20.283 law about native forest and forestry foment is a very important tool for the conservation and protection of Biodiversity, particularly the conservation of endangered species and fragile ecosystems. But these initiatives are not enough, if we want to achieve a clean environment, the personal collaboration of all of us is very important, for example in our behavior and daily life we can change many things to contribute to diminish contamination and global warmth (i.e: sort trash for recycling), sometimes we are not aware that little things such as: bike instead of a car, halogen light bulb instead of normal light bulbs, glass bottles instead of plastic bottles, and many other things could make a significant contribution for this aim, however, the collaboration of all of us is essential. Closely related with this, one of the most important things is the education, particularly the environmental education; there are a lot of people without any knowledge about it and it is very necessary to become aware of environmental problems and know how we can contribute to solve it.
In my case, in the latest years I have been trying to develop some activities in my house to collaborate with this ecological purpose , for example sort trash in different categories, and use the organic matter to make compost. I know it is not enough, but I have been trying to do other things, but sometimes it is very difficult to change some old behaviors.

Example of courage

The 33 miners are living a harsh reality, but they have shown a lot of power, courage, patient and desire to live (the most important), they have to keep those qualities in this final time and wait for the rescue, all of us are hoping that the rescue will make as soon as possible and before the end of October.
I think that the government is taking advantage of this situation, I mean they are using this special situation for improve their image, for example the minister for miner and the minister for health, they appear in all the things related with the mine, and I think that they use this because the population are very worried about this misfortune.
Well; without consider the last paragraph, the best of this situation is the current moment of the miners, the “tube” makes possible the communication with them, and allows giving them food, toiletries, and the most important bring communication with their families.
The positive side of this situation is related with the new position of the government with labor related issues, this point is very basic and important if Chile would like to be a develop country; the companies must to be aware of the importance of their workers and take care the integrity of all of them, because they are not objects, they are persons with feelings and rights like all…..

200 years ...Time to Reflect

Wow 200 years are too much; it is a very important time to reflect about our evolution and development as a country in different aspects such as social, economic and political among others; I think that Chile is in a good way in these different aspects, but it has a lot to improve.
In general terms I think that different activities made these last days were very funny and amazing and accord with the date, but some people overreacted with the celebration of our 200 years, this overreaction were translated in a lot of people spending a huge quantities of money in food, parties, alcohol, transport, etc. In my way of see the things I think is not necessary to spend a lot of money for spend a good time and is not necessary to get loans and get into debts to supply some unnecessary expenses; The most important things in those days is to share with the family and your friends and for these is not necessary spend a huge quantities of money. This behavior is very typical in the Chilean population for example in Christmas and New Year, this is the reason and the answer because the great majority of Chileans are gets into debts.
In my personal case I spent a very good time with my family and friends, and I ate a lot and delicious food and drunk a very typical drinks, it was a very funny bicentennial celebrations and I hope a similar celebration the next year.
